60 old folk benefit from free health tests at temple

MORNING market-goers were happy to get free blood glucose and pressure tests at the Tua Pek Kong Temple in Air Itam, Penang.

The tests for senior citizens, aged 55 and above, were held in conjunction with a diabetes awareness campaign organised by the Penang Diabetic Society.
Society president Ronnie Teoh said pro-active measures were taken by the members to provide free health screenings to people in residential areas.

“We will organise similar events in other constituencies in the near future,” he said, adding that the free tests benefited some 60 people last Sunday.

Also present, Air Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai said the campaign was held to increase health awareness especially among senior citizens.

Housewife R. Satna, 59, was happy with the free health screenings offered by the non-governmental organisation.

“I found out about the campaign several days ago from my neighbours. Thus, I decided to fast for the blood glucose test,” she added.
